Well as most people know I am an big fan of the hunter, class. Well the melee aspects of it anyways. I had a look at some builds and most people will notice I tend to steer away from Marksmanship. "But Arian," as some people will say, "isn't the hunter's main form of damage from ranged attacks? Also stop dissing marksmanship spec you ****." Well yeah, but what do you when when that mage blinks into your dead zone, or that rogue has filled you full of crippling poison? I see a lot of hunter immediately so GO SNAP and panic or OH SNAP and attempt to unsuccessfully limp away. Any smart person in pvp will slow a hunter as soon as they get in range. So what do you? YOU MELEE THEM BACK*. (*Success not guaranteed. Arian is not responsible for any loss either emotional or monetary in the event of hunter melee failure.)
The good geared 70 spec.

I would like to try this spec when I get some decent gear at 70. This are some advantages:
+15% HP +10% Armour +4% parry +4% AP increase and all damage taken reduced by 4%/
+11% crit chance ranged (against humanoids aka horde)
+6% crit chance in melee and +26% chance to crit with RS and MB
All damage increase by 2% when pet is active with a total of +5% against humanoids aka horde in conjunction with humanoid slaying. (When are you without a pet?) And pet damaged increased by 20% (who else would you want to fight beside you besides your bestest buddy? Yes I mean my pet as well Hya.)
Traps that dp 30% more burning and biting.
Wyvern sting and Detterance. BOOYAH
And if you wanted to do it again... READINESS. With this build, in theory you could CC four people. Sleep x2, freeze x2. And then RUN AWAY like a Marksmanship Hunter.
If you really wanted to keep aimed shot, you can replace the 5 points in Master Tactician with either improved concussive shot or improved hunter's mark or efficiency. Up to you.
The I don't have/want good gear and I is a lazy grinder. Aka the Chinese gold farmer build.

Pretty much self explanatory, let the pet do the work and you just go pew pew pew. In case the big bad mob decides to come eat you, you can take a few hits with your increased health and armour and detterance in emergency situations. Oh and The Beast Within. _________________

Since we are already on the topic of hunters, I would like to pose a few questions.
1. Why does everyone like to rag on hunters?
For whatever reason, I have always heard hunters being called huntards, n00b hunters, or something derogative. Why is that? What have we done? And just because hunters are one of the favorite classes for the gold farmer doenst count. I cannot recall any other class being called by an unworthy name but I have been playing since day 1 either. And then there are some who outright dislike hunters? I could be sitting at the AH and see over trade "hunters sux" (although this is usually preceeded by a question about hunters). Whats that all about? If any class should be disliked it is deffinetly the rogue ( just kidding guys ).
2. What is wrong with being MM specced?
Honestly, what is wrong with it? Time and time again I see hunters who are BM/Surv. specced and poke fun at me or call me a n00b for being MM (Trueshot Aura always give me away ) and participating in PvP. But when it comes down to PvP, I believe the MM is most versatile. First off, Silence Shot; enough said. Then Trueshot Aura gives the party an instant +125 AP and with Imp. Hunters mark it allows 100% of its effect to be applied to melee damage. I am not going to go through everything, but there are also skills that increase agility and AP. And we still have the ability to trap folk and we still have a pet and we can still melee as a last resort (I have had crits from raptor strike reach 1250).
I know that most MM freeze up like sissy little girls when they get in melee, but that is just a bad player. It's simple, get them in the freeze trap if you can and run away and shoot some more. Or if they are in the dead zone, scatter shot them then run away and shoot some more. Or wing clip them then run away and shot some more. Heck, Hya and I won one of our Arenas today by me keeping this rogue wing clipped while my cat tore into him. I agree that our biggest weakness is that we are best at range, but Blizz has given us the tools to get us back away from our targets, but most dont use them.
(Dont worry, my rant is almost over.)
This might just be me who sees this stuff going on and being said. But I just wish people would have a little more respect for what MM hunters can do in PvP and PvE and not think that the hunter is the only class that can hit 70 and still be a n00b. Any noob can lvl any class (not just hunters) to 70 and still suck. |

I dont feel any spec is good or bad, I feel it is all about playing the character the way you are most comfortable. For me BM/Surv is more comfortable for me because I cant think fast enough to remember where traps are and what ones I want to set off.
I have been hit by silence shot and it sucks! But you are correct, you do still have your pet and if you are able to play MM and kick butt then go for it and dont let others sway your choice. Like I said in the beginning, it is all about playing how you are most comfortable.
I have a hunter who is full BM,, oops, never full, cause I love concussive shot, but close enough to full and now I am trying Jazzie with a little bit of survival to see if that works better for me. I just want to play to the best of my ability, not the best of someone else's ability. If I die too much then I will go back and look at what I can change to up my survival rate, but until then I will continue on as I am.
As for the noob comment, I think that is just because they are jealous that hunters are probably the easiest class to solo with,,,,, yes I know others will say they had no problem soloing their class, I didnt say it was the only class, I said it was easiest. _________________ ~Shadow~ |

I have a few theories:
1. LOL ALL HUNTERS ARE CHINESE GOLD FARMERS: Most gold farmers are hunters which really make us look bad. Heck, if I see a high level unguided hunter even I assume they are farmers.
2. Dumb people play the 'easy' class. Yes I admit it, hunters are the easiest and probably the best solo class. Send pet in, right click, loot. Yet some people don't understand that shooting wildly in groups is not the best thing to do. Heck I have grouped with extremely stupid hunters before ie PET ON AGGRESSIVE. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO CLICK THE PASSIVE BUTAN? I mean all classes have dumb players, but it seems that ours gets the most attention.
3. HUNTER WEAPON. Hunters ninja weapons from every other class! Well they can use basically every weapon any melee class can (except maces). And for a hilarity factor, we can use staves! I tend to pass on weapons if I have a rogue or warrior in the group or at least ask them first. Most people people are quite civil if you discuss things first.
4. There is a long thread on the WoW forums about people who have grouped with stupid hunters. Again, adds to opinions on hunters.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I hate it, I talk trash about it, but in the end you play how you like. Also I was raised by a guy with 2 70 hunters and I tend to follow his play style ie Survival. You like hard hitting shots, I like versatility. (And the hilarious melee option.)
Feel free to post a good MM build Brel, you probably know a lot more about it than I do, and I would like to see your build too. _________________

Both of you are right....And hearing it in a different way makes sense now.....Most hunters ARE friggin idiots. I remember grouping with one who had a macro that had him say "Sasha attack!" every time he sent his pet in....I will post my spec when I am not at work . |

I think that macro would have been cooler if it was "sasha attack %T !!" cause then you are roleplaying the whole thing out! yes, I'm a silly kitty |

" I know that most MM freeze up like sissy little girls when they get in melee.."
-blinks- I'm offended by the term 'sissy girls'. I"m not sissy - I just hate melee. It's so easy to break a nail in hand to hand combat.
Anyway. Brel, I totally feel ya. I got slack all the time from a certain hunter down under ( won't name names ) about being Marks. I am enjoying BM now - I can solo a lot better, and it works more with my melee skills, or lack thereof. But I do miss those high crit shots. Those rocked. Who knows? Might switch back one day. _________________ "Nothing will stop me from saving the wo - Ooo! Shiney!" |
